I got a weave and I love the natural hair community!
So I wasn’t sure I was going to elaborate on my latest video, but I really thought I ought to…
I got a hair weave recently, which, if you’re lacking the melanin necessary to have been exposed to the concept means that my big curly fro is braided up underneath this Indian hair I bought.
Too often in the natural hair community, we judge each other’s hair choices. We call each other out as “not being natural enough” or “selling out” when we reach for a weave before we just twist up our natural curls. I expected this backlash when I posted the first picture of the weave, and was OVERWHELMED WITH JOY when you all not only accepted me, but told me it was okay to take a break from time to time.
I just want to spread some love because you all have been great to me and really encouraged me to explore what “being natural” means to me and I’m finding that it’s not black/white. It’s a complete spectrum of choices and I’m proud of the maturity and grace you ladies show me and everyone else on the reg.
